The official VKontakte Windows 8 app or VK, as it is also known, is available in the Windows Store. We take it for a quick ride to see if it can suit your needs of online communication. The official VKontakte app for Windows 8 has been available in the Windows Store for quite a while now, but it lacked a lot of important features to make it truly a standalone client. With the launch of Windows 8.1, the developers of VKontackte have also released a revamped version of this popular social network in Russian speaking countries.

Vkontakte is some sort of a local Facebook, similar to Odnoklassniki and is very popular in Russia, Ukraine, Belorussia, Moldova and other countries where there is a considerable number of Russian-speaking people. There are actually over 220 million with registered profiles, so there is quite a lot of interested for a Windows 8.1 app, as well.

The multiple-sized Live Tiles are available, including the big one. Also, there’s split screen support. The VKontakte app for Windows 8.1 is very similar to the Windows Phone 8 version. If you don’t want to install Vkontacte for Windows 8 (download link at the end), you can use the IM+ Instant Messenger, which also hasICQ login options.

For most of the kids of his age, the Internet was an amazing way to play and communicate with others, but he was deeply impressed by the flow of information and how easily you can find anything on the web.

Prior to founding Windows Report, this particular curiosity about digital content enabled him to grow a number of sites that helped hundreds of millions reach faster the answer they’re looking for.
