Key notes

Steam is back with another survey for June 2023, and it seems Windows 11 is experiencing growth in the market, especially when it comes to gamers. The community of gamers prefers Windows 11 to Windows 10,according to multiple surveys.

For example, the survey conducted by Steam says that Windows 11 64-bit experienced a +1.76% from the last survey. This gets Windows 11 to 35.75% popularity for gamers.

On the other hand, Windows 10 is still going strong at 59.43%, but it’s starting to lose its momentum. Since the last survey, Windows 10 has experienced a -1.08% loss of gamers, which means that the OS is starting to lose popularity in this community.

Steam conducts a monthly survey to collect data about what kinds of computer hardware and software our customers are using. Participation in the survey is optional, and anonymous. The information gathered is incredibly helpful to us as we make decisions about what kinds of technology investments to make and products to offer.

However, Windows 10 is still going very strong when it comes to the non-gamer community. Statcounter reports that Windows 10 users make up 71.09% of the total Windows users in June 2023. While Windows 11 stays at 23.93%, in very slow but steady growth. In time, Windows 11 will be adopted by more users, but for now, Windows 10 is still the most popular Windows version.

Windows 11 is slowly growing in the gaming community and this is a good thing

Windows 11 is starting to grow in the gaming community, according to the Steam survey conducted in June 2023.

At that time, we reported that 35% of Steam users have switched to Windows 11, and Microsoft’s operating system family keeps holding the market tight with a 96.77% market share (+0.63). Apple is second with 1.79% (-0.60), and Linux is third with 1.44% (-0.03).

Windows 11 getting recognized by gamers might be due to several reasons. The operating system has been getting some quality updates, and many drivers are now fully stabilized on it. Plus, some really important games, such asStarfield, will soon come to Windows as well, and Windows 11 is the recommended version.

However, please note that participation in the survey is optional, so the data does not really represent 100% of Steam users.
