Updating your Windows system should be straightforward if you followthe right procedure. However, it’s not uncommon to run into errors. The one we’ll tackle here saysWe couldn’t update system reservedpartition, with and it’s usually paired with the error codes 0xc1900104 or 0x800f0922.

This update error comes up due to afull System ReservedPartition(SRP). Thispartitionstores your Windows system boot information. It’s normal for it to fill up because third-party security software, such as antiviruses write data to the System ReservedPartition.

To fix the issue,  you need at least15MBof free space on the System ReservedPartition. Follow me as I walk you through the two steps to clear thispartitionand fix the We couldn’t update the System ReservedPartitionissue.

1. Find out the partition style

NOTE:Thepartitionstyle could either be aGUID Partition Table (GPT) or Master Boot Record (MBR). You will need this information for the next steps.

2. Delete font files

If you got errors in the previous step, type inicacls . /grant system:f /tand hit Enter.

The first step was to determine if the System ReservedPartitionis in the GPT or MBRpartitionstyle. After that, you have to follow the steps applicable to your partition style.

If your computer runs on Windows 8.1, 8, or 7, check out thesteps recommended by Microsoft.

Once you clear the SRP, you’ll no longer see the We couldn’t update the System ReservedPartitionerror and can upgrade your Windows system.
