Key notes

VMware upgraded its Fusion and Workstation products, adding support for theWindows 10 Anniversary UpdateandWindows Server 2016. For the time being, support for the Anniversary Update is available and support for Windows Server 2016 will become available when Fusion is launched.

VMware is going to release the new versions of its products on September 7 to all users. Thereleaseswill also support multiple VMs in a single window and will bring bug fixes and overall performance improvements as well.

This year we are delivering Fusion 8.5 and Fusion 8.5 Pro, and the big surprise is this:It’s a free upgrade for all current-version customers.  So, if you’re on Fusion 8.1.1, you’re going to be able to upgrade to the latest Fusion with full support for […] Windows 10 Anniversary edition, for free. We’ll also be adding Windows Server 2016 support when it comes available.

The good news doesn’t end here: the company also updated its Workstation product family, rolling out theVMware Workstation12.5 Pro and Player editions.

This piece of news reassures many users who were worried about Fusion’s future after VMware laid off the Fusion and Workstation teams. Apparently, the changes the company made were beneficial since it marks the first time VMware provided a yearly update for no additional cost to current-version customers.

The regular price forFusion 10is $88.95, but if you upgrade from Fusion 4 or higher, you can save $30. Workstation 14 Pro costs $247.95, but if you upgrade from Workstation 7 or higher, you’ll pay only $151.95, saving $100. If you’re already running Fusion 8 or Workstation 12, you can upgrade for free. You can get them both fromVMware’s official store.
