Some Windows 8.1 users have been reporting various problems with their Visual Studio 2013 when installing it or when it Designer mode. We go through the complaints below.Recently, some forum postings have appeared saying that the install of the Visual Studio 2013 software in Windows 8.1 has been met with problems. One user has reportedly been getting this issue report “Microsoft visual studio express 2013 for Windows – ENU has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”
After doing a clean install of Windows 8.1 on my Macbook Air using Bootcamp (even though Microsoft decided to remove it from the Windows App Store due to a shitstorm of error reports), I also decided to do an install of the brand spanking new Visual Studio 2013. One of the errors I’m getting is that any Visual studio installation crashes immediately (winexpress_full, vs_ultimate etc).
This is what the affected user is saying who is apparently using Bootcmap. The problem seems to appear with select Intel drivers, so make sure you check that in your Device Manager and download the latest Intel Graphics drivers to your system. Another user is saying the following:
When I open designer it throws error: System.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException and after reload, it appear againt and has transparent. Broken desinger. Of course xaml is full of buttons, but it disappeared in desinger…The problem might be AMD Catalyst Controler, I tried reinstall it, but without results.

Visual Studio versions for Windows 8.1 and 10 [2018 Update]
Since the article was written, Visual Studio has been upgraded and received new versions in order to be compatible with the latest Windows features but also with users needs. Now we are waiting already forVisual Studio 2019 edition, which promised to be awesome. We also wrote about the most used Visual Studio version (until the new version will appear) – Visual Studio 2017.
You can try to upgrade from 2013 to 2016 or 2017 version as they havemore maintenance updatesand are better supported. They work faster and can offer you more than the previous versions. Recently, Visual Studio code has received a useful Java debugging extension. You can check for details here.
