Key notes

Toward the end of last year, we saw that Microsoft waspushing Windows 11 to Windows 10 22H2 usersvia the OOBE.

It seems that the tech giant wants to use the out of box experience for even greater things, and we’re about to look at one option right now.

Before we do, be sure to check this month’sPatch Tuesday rollout. Microsoft released fixes for a total of 97 CVEs in April.

The Windows 11 OOBE reveals a lot about upcoming plans

As you know, a few days ago, Microsoft released a special OOBE (Out of Box Experience) update for Windows 11 22H2 and 21H2, as well as all supported versions for Windows 10.

In truth, these new updates address some compatibility issues, similar to the previous release, so there’s really nothing new and exciting going on yet.

Furthermore, the Redmond tech giant is also looking at making changes to the OOBE with a newDevelopmentcustomization preset for configuring the PC.

And, the description of this feature mentions a newDev Homeapp, and it goes on to briefly discuss what the function of the new Dev Home app will be.

Apparently, when using it, you can monitor your workflows with the widgets dashboard and see suggested tips to boost PC performance and discover new developer settings.

Also, if Development is pre-selected, Windows has found that your previous PC has been used for developer workloads and might benefit from this customization.

Keep in mind that this change was spotted in Canarybuild 25336, even though the option was not yet available inside the Device Usage section in Settings.

Microsoft has apparently removed the Development option since then in the most recent Dev build, in case you weren’t aware.

The tech giant is also working on a Dev drive or developer volume option, based on the ReFS file system. Leave a comment below expressing your opinion on the matter.
