Miami Open 2023 preview

Miami Open 2023 preview

The semi-finals of the 2023 Miami Open – aka the coast-to-coast Sunshine Double – take place today at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Men’s no.1 seed Carlos Alcaraz exhibited the kind of form that won him last month’s Indian Wells title as he breezed past Taylor Fritz 6-4 6-2 in the quarter-finals yesterday. The Spaniard now faces Jannick Sinner, who might have many more titles to his name were it not for constantly coming up against Alcaraz, in the second of today’s men’s semi-finals.

Before that, it’s the first of the men’s semi-finals: fourth seed Daniil Medvedev vs Karen Khachanov. The all-Russian affair is due to start at 6pm BST / 1pm ET.  US qualifier Chris Eubanks fell to Medvedev in the quarter-finals yesterday. The 26-year-old American showed his character to break back in the second set but it was not to be.

With Iga Swiatek out with an injury, the women’s Miami Open draw remains wide open. Indian Wells champ Elena Rybakina is already through to Saturday’s final having despatched third seed Jessica Pegula 7-6 6-4.

In the second women’s semi-final, Petra Kvitová will come up against Romania’s Sorana Cîrstea. The match starts at 8pm BST / 3pm ET. Aryna Sabalenka fell in the quarter-finals
