Thousands of users who have tried to install the Anniversary Update on their computers are blocked by an annoying error message informing them they don’t meet the necessary hard disk space requirements. Microsoft recommends users should have at least 16 GB of free space on their disk in order to download and install the Anniversary Update.

However, there are still many users who can’t get theAnniversary Updatealthough they meet thesystem requirementsnecessary for this operation. It appears that this issue is prevalent forlow storage devices, although they have enough free space to successfully complete the upgrade. High storage devices with hundreds of gygabites of free space are also affected by this error.

When I run Windows 10 Update Assistant get message CPU=OK, Memory=OK, Disk Space=OK. After pressing “NEXT”, get message: Something went wrong. Not enough disk space, please run Disk Cleanup and try again.”

“The update fails with a 0x80070070 error, stating that I do not have enough free space on my hard drive, however, the drive has over 300GB of free space available even after downloading the update. “

Users have also run the Windows Update Troubleshooter, but the tool couldn’t detect any issues.

Fix: “Not Enough Disk Space for Anniversary Update”

Solution 1 – Delete the Anniversary Update files

“deleting the downloaded update files and starting over appears to have resolved this, although I have no idea why.”

Solution 2 – Use the Media Creation tool

You candownload the toolstraight from Microsoft’s website. Most users have confirmed this method allowed them to finally install the Anniversary Update on their machines, after the Upgrade Assistant informed them there was not enough space on their disk.
