Meltdown and Spectre are the two words on everybody’s lips these days. Many computer, phone and server users still worry about the risk of falling victims to this vulnerability, although Microsoft alreadyreleased a series of updatesaimed at patching these security issues.
At the same time, you should also know that these patches maytrigger performance issueson certain computers. As a matter of fact, Microsoft already acknowledged this problem officially and is working on mitigating its effects.
So, taking into account this fact, many users are wondering if they should install the latest Windows updates after all since they’reknown to cause many issues. Of course, nobody wants to have a computer that’s as slow as a snail, but users don’t want to risk exposing their devices to cyber threats either.
Meet Ashampoo’s Spectre Meltdown CPU Checker
Ashampoo recently introduced a dedicated tool that allows you to verify if your computer is indeed vulnerable to Meltdown & Spectre.
The tool is very easy to use: once you download it, you can start the scanning process and after a couple of minutes, you’ll know whether your PC is in any danger or not.
If the result is positive and your CPU is vulnerable to these threats, you can click on the “What should I do” option to learn how you can protect your computer. The link will take you to Ashampoo’s page where you can read more on how you can keep your machine safe from threats. Basically, the best and quickest solution is to install the latest Windows, BIOS, graphics driver versions and browser updates.
I downloaded the tool and tested my computer and the result was positive.
As a result, I installed the latest Windows updates so my good old HP laptop should be safe now.
